
Biographical Information- Dr. Marc Sopher
Dr. Marc Sopher is a family physician who has practiced in Exeter, New Hampshire since 1990, with the exception of 2004-2005, when he was staff physician at The University of Vermont's Center for Health & Wellbeing. During his tenure at UVM, he also worked in the Athletic Medicine Department as team physician for the intercollegiate athletic squads. After graduating cum laude with a B.A. from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts in 1983, he attended the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1987. Dr. Sopher completed a three-year residency in family practice in the Middlesex Memorial Hospital Family Practice program in Middletown, Connecticut in 1990.
He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and is board certified through the American Board of Family Practice. In addition to his family practice in Exeter, he served for 10 years as medical director of the Synergy Health and Fitness Center in Exeter, New Hampshire. There he provided medical leadership and oversight to a 40,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that integrates outpatient physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation and general fitness. From 1993 to 2003, Dr. Sopher also provided medical care to the students of Phillips Exeter Academyy. He has also been on the editorial board of the American College of Sports Medicine's Health and Fitness Journal.
An avid athlete, Dr. Sopher participates in many sports. As captain of the Williams College tennis team in 1983, he led his team to the inaugural NESCAC team championship while also capturing individual titles in singles and doubles. Dr. Sopher has run 16 marathons, including the Boston Marathon four times. He has run the grueling Mt. Washington Road Race three times, most recently in 2004. Also a cyclist, he has completed the Tristate Seacoast Century four times. He enjoys hiking with his family and once was spotted carrying an injured 90-pound dog on his back down Mt. Washington's Tuckerman's Ravine trail, relishing the extra workout.
